Retired Colonel Manuel Supervielle, specialist at Veritas Assurance, called for moderating expectations about an immediate change in Venezuela after the departure of Nicolás Maduro.
In an interview with Yoly Cuello, Manuel Supervielle stated that although the fall of Nicolás Maduro is a historic event, the regime’s apparatus—including the armed forces and intelligence services—continues operating under new leadership.
The expert noted that President Donald Trump’s strategy does not aim at direct military intervention, but rather a combination of political and economic pressure. He warned that, unlike the Panama case, the Venezuelan context is more complex and does not allow for an automatic transition.
Finally, he explained that Washington seeks to reassert its influence in the Western Hemisphere in the face of China’s expansion, in a global reordering where major powers consolidate their own spheres of influence.
